School Board Minutes November 7, 2005

Call to Order: Jeff Thompson called the meeting to order.
Opening Prayer: Janice Bellm
Approval of October Minutes: Changes recommended change spelling of “batched” to “matched”: in Principals report, add “will investigate new lawn service contract in spring with detailed job responsibilities” in Building and Grounds report. Motion made to approve minutes with changes by Lynn Kerkemeyer; seconded by Janice Bellm; motion carries.

Old Business
Policy Review – Sexual Harassment (#4003) sent for school wide consultation, no feedback received, typing error corrected, motion made by Brad Sparkman to approve policy and send to cannonical administrator for signing; seconded by Tim Kuzmierczak; motion carries. Standard Operating Procedure Policies; second page of Policy Committee Standard Operating Procedures was missing from packet, will revisit next; Finance Committee will be the next committee to submit standard operating procedures.
New Business
Update on Scrip – Beth Warnecke has taken over as chair of Scrip committee, she was present to discuss Scrip program, spreadsheets were distributed, discussed pros/cons of allowing Scrip orders to be paid for with credit cards, Scrip financial reports will be given to finance committee on quarterly basis, will do distribution of Scrip forms in parish bulletins for Christmas promotion, discussed taking Scrip program to parish finance councils to improve parish participation.
Committee Reports
Cannonical Administrator – A parishioner from St. Jerome’s gave financial memorial to St. John Neumann, Msgr. Mank will give funds to Mr. Holmes.
Principal – SJN will have a dance for 7th/8th graders on November 11th to raise money for hurricane victims; 5th/6th grade will participate in Math-a-thon for St. Jude’s; Fr. Titus will say Mass in November and speak with Jr. High student about vocations; all teachers are currently participating in Catechist training; parent/teacher conferences were successful; repair of the front entrance will begin soon; the Campaign for School Choice is requesting our support, postcards were distributed for signing, postcards will also be sent home to all school families, they should be signed and mailed to CCI.
Teacher’s Rep – Kindergarten teachers are looking into Space Program for students, will discuss with John Ross to see if funding may be available through a grant, other options for funding include PTU or school budget; teachers express concern regarding the cleaning of school bathrooms.
Finance – Marcie Delaney and Theresa Rendleman went to an informative Financial seminar offered by the diocese; a QuickBooks consultant has been hired to help Marcie with the system, it was felt she needed consistent training and support, from this point forward all QuickBooks issues will be handled through the consultant; Finance committee will begin looking into the possibility of sharing resources with SSPP.
Building and Grounds – Minimal turnout for workday but accomplished many of the needed tasks, possibly another workday in the spring; discussed need to have proof of insurance from all contracted services; discussed possibility of purchasing a lawn mower for school, what would be the cost, who would use equipment, what is our liability.
Development/PR – Handouts given; Magazine Drive grossed approximately $23,000; Auction made $47,000, continue to look for new auction chairperson; gathering information for Casino Night; looking for MC for Trivia Night; Athletics is having a Wine Tasting fund raiser of Dec. 9th.
Planning – Handouts given; 7 of 33 exit surveys returned with no conclusive information, may need to reevaluate exit survey.
Topics for next meeting – Jeff requests that all committee chairs submit written reports and agenda items prior to next meeting.

Next Meeting – The December meeting has been cancelled due to the lack of availability of school board members. The next meeting will be on January 9, 2006.
