School Board Minutes November 5, 2007
Present: Monsignor Mank, Jack Holmes, Tim Kusmierczak, Steve Kassing, Julie Keil, Peggy Reeves, Simon Griffin, Kathi Henderson, Brad Sparkman, Chuck Stowers, Jacqui Carlson, & Anne List.
Absent: John Ross, Joyce Ray & John Felisky

Call to order: Steve Kassing called the meeting to order.
Opening prayer: Simon Griffin
June minutes: Approved with minor modifications. Change pay off the high interest loan first, to low interest loan. Motion made to approve minutes by Tim Kusmierczak, seconded by Peggy Reeves. Motion approved

Old Business
- Spring Fundraiser – The first year we would like to add food, beverage and possibly music. We have been researching permits for alcohol, gaming, etc. Picnic will stay as is for the students; however we are trying to expand it into the evening hours to include more family time. We would also like to include the Knights of Columbus or church groups like MPH altar society or any group who would want to have a booth.

Principal's Report
- Jack reminded the board members to get in statements to Jean Johnson about Catholic schools week.
- Mr. Molloy’s class collected and donated $886.15 to the Red Cross for the California fire relief.
- Madison Catholic school principals would like to buy a banner to promote the Madison County Catholic schools. They have asked that we hang it in front of our school to be seen from the interstate.
- The parent’s will be receiving a letter at conferences about a website where they can check the list of sex offenders in our area. The state requires it to be given out to the parents.
- Bookfair and conferences are this Thursday & Friday, November 8th & 9th.
- PTU is next Tuesday, November 12th.
- Market day and Mass are both on Nov. 15th
- Auction is November 17th
- The Althoff school visit will be Tuesday December 4th. The school will be picking up the 7th & 8th and taking them to visit at the high school. A time will be scheduled for 5th &6th grade later in the year.
- Terra Nova scores are in and the students did well.

Finance
- Reviewed Balance Sheet - The balance is higher due to tuition and profits from fall fundraisers coming in.
- Review Profit & Loss Budget Performance
- Review Profit & Loss Year Comparison – Payroll is lower due to fewer teachers.
Buildings and Grounds
- Thanks to Julie dad’s for cutting along the fence line.
- Some cutting was done where the proposed outdoor classroom will be.
- Working on the basketball stand, but still need some hardware.
- Have been still getting information on signs for the school.
Development
- Review current fundraisers, & made correction to the golf tournament income. The total was $19,000.
- We are researching new fundraisers, Culver’s, or a crazy bowl.
- Discussed timing for Annual fund. Possible time could be around late January or late February. John brought up a discussion of a raffle done at the school in the past before Mardi Gras called Big Bucks Bonanza which drew in money.
Public Relations
- Still working on survey and unofficial guide to SJN.
- Planning Open House again during Catholic schools week.
Planning Committee
- The cluster group from SJN & Peter and Paul should be meeting soon. Hopefully we will be finding out the status of the five year plan and can progress from there.
Grants
- Denied for the outdoor classroom. RP Lumber may be able to help with the lumber. We have some other possibilities for the weather station. An eagle scout is also interested in helping build the pavilion. Julie also has a contact that may be willing to donate materials.
- Have reestablished our contact with the Blues and have some 7th grade parents who are interested in working a couple of hours. It can be a beneficial fundraiser.
Policy
- Working on converting the Policy manual to an electronic file and the possibility of putting it on the website.
- We are performing a comprehensive review of the Handbooks.
- Update the Dress Code Policy to provide better direction for non-uniform days and timing of uniform shorts. Longer time for shorts, possible Khaki pants, etc.
- Develop a paid time-off policy for faculty and staff.
Miscellaneous:
- Steve thanked Mr. Holmes for speaking at MPH and Jackie for organizing the children’s participation at Mass.
- Steve also thanked Monsignor for all his hard work as administrator.
