SJN SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES January 5, 2009
Present: Jack Holmes, Steve Kassing, Monsignor Mank, Kathy Coddington, Kathi Henderson, Angela Janini, Julie Keil, Peggy Reeves, Jennifer Parker, Joyce Ray, Michele Sheahan, Simon Griffin, Priscilla Yasitis, Jacqui Carlson, Tim Kusmierczak.

Changes to December Minutes: Add opening & clsoing prayers done by Jacqui Carlson.
Minues approved by Joyce Ray and seconded by Peggy Reeves. Minutes passed.
Corrspondence
- Several "Thank you" cards were received.
- 2 Promethian Interactive Boards were purchased and placed in the classrooms of Mrs. Gasawski and M. Sillery. they each gave us a brief demonstration of how they are used.

- None
Principal's Report
- Mr. Sly is in the hospital. He will hopefully be back at school tomorrow.
- Brad Hill wrote a check for $1500 to the Althoff student with the highest score on the entrance exam. this came from the $40,000 endowment fund in Kathy Hill's name. this will eventually transfer to the Fr. McGivney students when the school opens.
- A new rooftop unit over the 4th grade room has been installed.
- There has been a faint gas smell in the kitchen. This is being taken care of.
Calendar
- Jan. 15 - All school spelling bee.
- Jan. 16 - End of 2nd quarter.
- Jan. 19 - No school in honor of MLK day.
- Jan. 20 - PTU meeting.
- Jan. 26-30 - Catholic Schools Week.
- Jan. 29 - Red Cross Blood Drive.
Teacher’s Report
- Terra Nova test scorres were good. The tests were harder this year.
- Joe Mersinger from Student Council wrote a letter to each of the parishes asking that students participate in each mass to kick off CSW. Kids should wear uniforms to mass.
- Mike Ratulowski is helping with the drawing of the bulletin board in the entry way of school.
- Family day is on Feb. 26 with mass at 10:00 am and lunch following.
- Tuesday, the 27th will be Community Day.
- Wednesday will be volunteer Day.
- On thursday the students can wear their favorite sports attire for Students Day. Pizza will be served and in the afternoon there will be a trivia contest.
- On Friday the week will wrap up with a Teacher's Day and a 11:15 dismissal
PTU
- No Report
Finance
- Still on target.
- Up on "Other income" because of donations of approximately $15,000 from various people.
Policy
- Michele got policies scanned. the next goal is to update and revise the Athletic Handbook.
Buildings and Grounds
- Getting information on new sign.
- Still looking at sealing the parking lot the week after the rummage sale.
Development
- Fundraisers are doing fairly well. Pleasantly surprised with the numbers so far from the auction
- Still working on replacing Jan as Scrip coordinator.
Public Relations
- New brochure almost completed; additional photos being added; will be printing 5000 copies.
- Open House Jan. 25th. There will be inserts in the bulletins the next couple of weeks.
- Working on thank you notes to be handded out to parishioners at masses Jan. 24 & 25.
Planning/survey
- Exit interview sheets sent out to 43 homes. Hope to share results at next meeting.
