Principal's Report
- Email was received from Diocese stating there would be a $389 million dollar reduction in State Government funds. This means there will be no Illinois Texbook Loan money, Transportation Reimbursement program, or Education Safety Grant. These funds in the past have provided textbooks for our students, the new security system and met many other needs of ours.
- Diocese invites new and current board members to attend a meeting, August 27, 6:30 P.M. at St. Boniface Church.
- Teacher assignments have been made. Two seventh grade teachers will be Mrs. Baird and Mr. Stowers. The music room will also be moving across from Mrs. Baird's room.
- Art will be taught in three segments this year to give students more art time. (Aug. - Nov., Dec. - Feb., and March - end of the year)
- Pre-Ke enrollment: 3 year old: 14 students 4 year old: 21 students K-8 enrollment: 216 students
- Saint John Neumann will be hosting the Terra Nova meeting.
- Security system update - System is almost fully installed. Herb Condray has donated all his time to install the new system. Father Jakel suggested mounting a dry erase board near the key pad to have people sign in when they turn off the alarm. This would ensure someone did not rearm the system while another person was in the building. Elise suggested having different codes for each person so that you could track who had been in and out of the building.
- Emergency operation plan - has been revised as of March, 2009. Michele suggest having one placed in each classroom accessible to anyone who may be working in the room.
- Organ was donated - it was suggested to donate it to the rummage sale next year.
- $3144.00 made at Rummage Sale - proceeds have been used to purchase 15 new computers and a color printer for the lab.
- Parking Lot update - Russ Wheat from Corrective Asphalt Materials inspected the parking lot and driveways. He was impressed with how good they look. He suggested filling in a couple of small cracks and sealing some of the seams. He recommends we do the entire parking lot and driveways in the summer of 2011 with the clear coat application. If a clear coat is applied, it doesn't change the color. but has a longer life. Michele suggested getting a second opinion. Mrs. Hudson will contact Christ Brothers.
- Aug 17th 9:00 - Noon Kohl's will send 5 volunteer workers to paint hallways and give $500.00 to the school.
- Orientation will be held August 17th, at 6:30 all parents and students will be in the classrooms and at 7:00 everyone will meet in the Gym.
- Cafeteria - lunch price will remain the same.
Teacher’s Report
- Jen and Bob's wedding went well.
Committees
- Steve asked that Chairperson of the committees to submit goals for the year next month and a list of members on the committee.
Finance
- The year-end financial statement was positive as SJN received a number of donations throughout the year to provide it with an approximate $30K surplus.
- Scrip-timing of purchases and sales have a lot to do with the reported balance - tracking needs to be firmed up to give a more accurate amount.
- Spring Fling provided a net income of $10,000 which includes the start up funds from PTU to cover the cost of the kids' picnic in the afternoon.
